Hello, I’m Philippa Clarke, a mixed media artist living and creating on the beautiful North Norfolk coast.
Surrounded by a wildlife-filled garden and accompanied by my dog Daisy, my studio is where nature, memory, and imagination come together. My work is inspired by the colours, patterns, and textures I find in the world around me—especially in natural landscapes, recycled materials, and the quiet poetry of everyday life.
I work with hand-dyed fabrics, handmade papers, and found objects, combining freestyle machine embroidery with hand stitching to create textile collages and layered artworks. My pieces often explore themes of social history, particularly the role of women, as well as the contrast between wildlife and decaying industrial spaces. More recently, I’ve turned inward, creating personal work that touches on grief, dementia, and emotional healing.
Though I haven’t had formal training in art, I’ve always been a maker—from designing clothes as a child to crafting theatre costumes during my university years. I love to experiment, research, and discover new ways of creating, focusing on the process rather than perfection.
Before pursuing art full-time, I worked as an Occupational Therapist, supporting adults and children with emotional and mental health needs. It was in that role I truly saw the power of art to heal, communicate, and bring joy.
Since retiring, I’ve embraced this next chapter with open arms—and full sketchbooks! My work is a reflection of the things I love: nature, people, stories, textures, and time.
Thank you for visiting—whether you're here to explore, connect, or simply be inspired, you're very welcome.
